Affordable Rentals ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and your rights, whether you are a landlord, caretaker, tenant, or a visitor who browses listings or sends an inquiry.
This policy is written with the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 in mind. By using Affordable Rentals you consent to the data practices described here. Please note that the landlord who manages your tenancy also handles your data on the platform and is responsible for how they use it.
We collect the following categories of personal data:

We do not collect your M-Pesa PIN, national ID number or bank account details. PIN entry happens exclusively on Safaricom's secure STK Push interface.
If you use "near me" or "use my current location", your device's location is used in your browser to move the map. We do not store it. The only locations we store are map pins that landlords choose for their properties.

Our providers may store or process data on servers outside Kenya. We choose providers with appropriate safeguards, but your data may be subject to the laws of the country where it is stored.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@affordablerentals.site. We will respond within 30 business days. Where the data is held by your landlord as part of your tenancy, we may need to involve them.
Affordable Rentals uses your browser's localStorage, not cookies, to keep you signed in and remember preferences. This includes your session token, the property you are viewing, your theme, whether you have seen the site tour, and, for caretakers, their permissions. A referral code from a link is held in sessionStorage until you register.
The site may also use a service worker that caches pages and files on your device so it loads faster. We do not use advertising pixels or analytics tools that collect personal data.
Affordable Rentals is not intended for use by persons under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.
If you believe a minor has created an account on our platform, please contact us immediately at support@affordablerentals.site and we will delete the account promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
Registered users will be notified of material changes via email. Continued use of Affordable Rentals after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
